Apple Macbook – the last Mac I will ever buy…
Feb 28th
I bought my Macbook so I could develop for the iPhone. While I found over £700 for the privilege of developing for the iPhone a bit steep, it made sense. There was no other way of me doing it, unless I hacked a machine and somehow get the Mac OS running on it. I didn’t have the time to pursue the latter. Anyway, the Macbook has been kept in a specifically designed sleeve, and inside a laptop compartment inside a rucksack, padded with memory foam, designed specifically for carrying a laptop. Never dropped it, or sat on it, or served dinner with it… Have a look at these pictures:
While the Apple Rep at the ‘Genius Bar’ was sympathetic to my woes, and offered to replace the top part for free (good job too, I was in no mood to be messed with that day, trust me.) My calls for a replacement laptop was met with ‘If it was a month old, we could have done….”
Still, under six months for a Macbook isn’t bad then, right?
I have had about ten laptops, half the price of my Macbook throughout my career. Never before have I had the kind of problem with quality.
I’ll wrap it in cotton wool then before I take it out in future.
To add insult to injury, the part wasn’t in stock. Despite having waited a week to get an appointment at the ‘Genius Bar’ I would have to wait some more. The problem is clearly a design fault, but they carried on selling them like that anyway. Still, they are repairing it, that makes everything OK? No.
First and last. Ever. Lets hope that when I get it back, it’s safe to expose it to oxygen.
Apple – New iPhone, OS 4.0, and iTablet tomorrow?
Jan 26th
Well folks, looks like tomorrow is the big day! I wonder what apple has got up it’s sleeve? With the rumour mill about to crash and burn, what are we likely to see? More importantly, what do we want?
I think we are going to see the rumoured iTablet device tomorrow, without a doubt. It will be interesting to see what features it has and how it changes the computing landscape. Even more compelling, is the thought that the iTablet (whatever its called) could do for computing what the iPhone did for mobile technology.
I would also like to see an update to the iPhone OS – we haven’t had one in a while, and I’m hoping that apple uses the opportunity to give us some background processing for applications, and a better home screen – which has already been rumoured. What do you want to be announced tomorrow?
