Visual Studio 2010 Installation Experience
Apr 13th
I have to hand it to the guys at Microsoft, they have really done a brilliant job. Last night I installed the RTM of Visual Studio Ultimate and I was stunned al how little I had to do to. After the installation had finished and I had upgraded the MyMo project, all of my existing plug ins for Visual Studio 2008 were installed and working in Visual Studio 2010, Including SVN and Nunit, the chalkboard (with thanks to Brandon for saving my eyesight after many hours of coding) settings for the IDE had also been automatically imported. It all worked first time without me having to touch a thing. Flawless. Visual Studio 2010
Apple Macbook – the last Mac I will ever buy…
Feb 28th
I bought my Macbook so I could develop for the iPhone. While I found over £700 for the privilege of developing for the iPhone a bit steep, it made sense. There was no other way of me doing it, unless I hacked a machine and somehow get the Mac OS running on it. I didn’t have the time to pursue the latter. Anyway, the Macbook has been kept in a specifically designed sleeve, and inside a laptop compartment inside a rucksack, padded with memory foam, designed specifically for carrying a laptop. Never dropped it, or sat on it, or served dinner with it… Have a look at these pictures:
While the Apple Rep at the ‘Genius Bar’ was sympathetic to my woes, and offered to replace the top part for free (good job too, I was in no mood to be messed with that day, trust me.) My calls for a replacement laptop was met with ‘If it was a month old, we could have done….”
Still, under six months for a Macbook isn’t bad then, right?
I have had about ten laptops, half the price of my Macbook throughout my career. Never before have I had the kind of problem with quality.
I’ll wrap it in cotton wool then before I take it out in future.
To add insult to injury, the part wasn’t in stock. Despite having waited a week to get an appointment at the ‘Genius Bar’ I would have to wait some more. The problem is clearly a design fault, but they carried on selling them like that anyway. Still, they are repairing it, that makes everything OK? No.
First and last. Ever. Lets hope that when I get it back, it’s safe to expose it to oxygen.
Manage Your Money Online
Feb 14th
Manage Your Money Online is a new start-up I am working on that aims to make it easier for all of us to take care of what we spend our cash on on a daily basis, without all of the complicated stuff that is normally associated with managing money. It’s got a lot of cool features, and is currently under wraps as we develop the code. If you would like to register your interest, why not head along to the site and enter your details?
